Delta GEMS
Delta GEMS was established
to mentor and assist young women between the ages of 14 to 18 years
old. This committee offers young women social, career planning,
scholarship, academic training, college preparation and civic service.
Delta
GEMS has an exciting year planned for these young women who are
embarking the horizon of a promising future. Some of these activities
include: workshops in career planning, goal setting, financial
planning, and scholarship in addition to community service projects, a
sleep-over where self-esteem and sisterhood is explored, and a college
campus tour.
Senior Project
This committee serves
various needs of the senior citizens in the Inglewood Community by
sharing information regarding activities and resources that promote
Senior independence, self-fulfillment, and dignity.
Scholarship
This committee informs high
school students of Inglewood Alumnae's scholarship opportunities and is
responsible for awarding scholarships after an interview and application
process.
Social Action
This committee ensures that
Inglewood Alumnae and residents of the Inglewood community are abreast
of issues that may affect African Americans, particularly those
residents of Inglewood. Voter Registration, Education and Mobilization
are an on-going endeavor of this committee.
Summit VI: Health Issues
Impact on the African American Woman
Since the birth of Summit I,
The Black Women, in 1981, the Summits created to focus on the Physical
and Mental Health thrust of the Sorority continues to do just that. This
biennium, Summit VI has been charged to look directly at the health of
the African American woman and the various health issues that the
African American woman faces in our communities. Health issues that will
be focused on include Obesity, AIDS, Diabetes, Breast Cancer, and
Hypertension. The initial focus will be on Obesity. Summit VI will
convene in Jamaica in 2006
